Hi, I’m Paula and welcome to Freemotion.

Let me tell you a bit about myself.  Fitness has always been an important part of who I am.  Actually that’s not right.  Movement has always been an important part of who I am.  After all, what use is your body if you can’t move freely?

As a child I wasn’t interested in sport, but loved gymnastics and dance.  I used to live for my Saturday morning dance classes.

When it came time to leave school I decided I wanted to be an aerobics instructor as it was the booming 80’s and everyone was doing it.  I was fortunate enough to land myself a job in a local family run gym where I soon started teaching.  Being young and enthusiastic I was keen to try new things and ventured in to martial arts, weight training, running and swimming, all that on top of aerobics and dance classes everyday.  It wasn’t long before I realised that I had to take care of myself, particularly my body.  It was about this time that my life changed and so did my career.  Needless to say, I didn’t give up dancing and keeping fit, I simply stopped teaching.  This status quo remained for many years until one day I took myself off to a yoga class.  It was the one thing I had always wanted to do but never got round to.  I always thought I wasn’t flexible enough. Well, it was one of the toughest things I’d ever done.  It turned out that I’d taken myself to a power yoga class, and I loved it.

Yoga & Pilates

I had discovered a whole new way of moving and freeing my body.  This was the catalyst that inspired me to qualify as a Personal Trainer.  I wanted to learn about the body and what makes it move.  After I qualified I worked with lots of different people, from cancer patients to those recovering from heart surgery and those wanting to loose a few pounds and tone up.  I witnessed first hand the positive effects that movement can bring. I had come full circle, finally returning to the thing I loved doing most.

Pilates was the last thing I discovered.  It was a bit like yoga, something I had wanted to try but never quite got round to.  My first experience of Pilates was actually attending on of Michael’s classes.  As a Personal Trainer I was pretty fit but after doing my first Pilates class I realised that I was missing out on a lot of beneficial stuff.  I could rant on about the benefits, but you really have to try it for yourself to truly understand.

Since my introduction to Pilates I have not looked back and with Michael’s support I am now a qualified a Pilates Instructor.
