Professional Sports Athletes
The elite sports person has different needs to members of the public. Whilst they are still human, the forces and physical demands placed on their body during sport can be super human. When working with elite athletes we take our usual care and attention to detail, and make sure we are as thorough as needs be, to isolate the problem areas. We always make sure to deliver the best, no one likes second best!
Sports Injuries
Mobility of the body is of the utmost importance to the sportsperson. Poor flexibility in the joints and muscles will prevent the body from performing at its optimum and is often a contributory element to injury. By assessing the posture and condition of those structures which make the human body a dynamic machine (the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues), the osteopath is able to promote a rapid recovery from injury.
Sports Biomechanical Analysis
More and more athletes, coaches, scientists are using video feedback as a coaching aid. Video can very quickly help athletes to understand the basic fundamentals of a specific movement. By providing athletes with immediate performance feedback via our Quintic ™ video software, the images are used to assist coaches in their task, as the athlete's performance can be repeated afterwards and slowed down during critical phases. We mainly use our software package for injury prevention and injury rehabilitation to isolate the cause of problems.
Pregnancy
Osteopathy can help you in preparation for every stage of your pregnancy. Pre-pregnancy health is something that can aid prompt conception and the best start to the developing fetus. A woman’s centre of mass changes during pregnancy and thus poses bio-mechanical challenges to the spine and body as a result of adaptation to the developing baby - this can lead to a variety of aches and pains which can be managed through Osteopathy. Any birth whether it be a straight forward vaginal delivery, a forceps/ventouse delivery or a caesarean section may benefit from osteopathic treatment.
Infants and Children
Cranial Osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of Osteopathic treatment that encourages the release of stress and tensions throughout the body, including the head. Keeping true to the Osteopathic philosophy the Cranial Osteopathy technique aims to restore the function and integrity of the human body which is lost during injury and trauma.
Whiplash
Symptoms experienced by the injured person can be immediately experienced or they can come on gradually taking a few days, weeks or months to manifest completely. A whiplash of the neck region rarely, if ever, results in symptoms exclusively at the neck, rather the entire body will experience the repercussions of the injury. In Osteopathy it is believed that the head and upper neck dictate to the rest of the body; housing the brain and spinal cord. We often find ourselves successfully treating clients with whiplash who have tried other avenues of treatment, with no result.
Gait Scan
Our GaitScan™ System is a revolutionary diagnostic tool for assessing our patient's biomechanics and making sure the shoes and trainers they use are adequate and not causing the problems. GaitScan™ has an industry high 4096 sensors and scans at an industry high 300Hz (scans per second). These measurements provide us with a sophisticated explanation of foot mechanics and assists us with orthotic and/or shoe solutions, along with our podiatrist.
